Sales of all Tablets and iPads have increased beyond early figures. With a couple of months left to go in 2013, tablet shipments are to reach 227.4 million units. This surge in tablet adoption is surging by U.S. businesses. Enterprise business have attributed to the large use of using tablets for professional use and opposed to personal use.

The three major industries that have adopted tablets are health care, education and Foodservice (restaurants). Adoption in vertical markets such as retail are contributing factors as this segment is set to slowly double from the 10% share it held in 2012 to 20% by 2017.

These figures from IDC have caught Google by surprise says, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt. “I was actually surprised by this. I didn’t call this. Would the phone replace the PC?  I figured employees would be using a PC and a phone,”

“It looks to us like the majority of enterprise computing is being done on mobile devices, in particular on tablets. That broke the old model,” he added. The old model, as Schmidt refers too, are companies moving away from PCs towards Tablets for internal work or as a frontline service. Not all companies are running to take on tablets but it is on its way. The adoption by Enterprise clients, have accelerated its growth and is one of my 2013 predictions coming true.
