# Apple v. Google: The goliath deathmatch by the numbers in 2014 – TechRepublic

Too bad we can’t throw Facebook in the cage with these guys and see who wins the real celebrity death match 😉  As I see it, Apple is making a move to be more like Google and Google is making a move to be more like Apple.  The paradigm shift will likely revolve around payments technology before it’s over – witness the recent Visa/Mastercard announcement of HCE and the ability to sidestep carriers like Verizon to use Google Wallet.  G Wallet has failed miserably to date, but if Google thinks, as we do, that Apple is going to transition Passbook into a payments system, then pushing HCE instead of NFC particularly may put them back on the map going forward.
